Is the missing link to your fitness journey your nutrition?

2019 - Pre Macro Tracking

2022 - Post Macro Cut

My Macro Journey

I didn't believe that my eating habits were unhealthy. I always focused on consuming fruits and vegetables, filling my plate, and paid little attention to my daily fat intake because I hit the gym hard five days a week. As I became stronger and faster, and achieved some of my strength goals, I felt that something was missing. Despite training hard, I didn't have the 6-pack I had worked so diligently for in the gym. My body didn't reflect all my efforts. That's when I decided to delve into the world of Macronutrients.

I enlisted a coach from a major gym who programmed my macros, set my numbers, and off I went. Initially, I had no idea what the numbers meant, why she programmed them for me, and how to consistently meet them. I felt lost, annoyed, and gave up within the first week.

A few years later, I launched Saint J Fitness and began educating myself on Macronutrients and how to utilize them to achieve fitness and body composition goals. I immersed myself in the world of Macros through podcasts, literature, social media, and discussions with peers. It was an EYE opening experience. I had many preconceived notions on food that were wrong! I attempted my first cut three years ago and successfully met my body composition goals. What made the difference this time was that I was in control of my macro numbers. I had formulated them myself and gained a greater understanding of what they meant and how they contributed to my nutrition journey. I use macro tracking as a tool to help me meet my fitness goals. It’s changed how I eat, how I look at food, and how I feed my family.

Fast forward to today, and I believe in educating my clients to set their own macros. My clients work hand in hand with me to establish their macros, make necessary adjustments, and monitor their progress. I firmly believe in the power and responsibility of learning the process. Tracking macros isn't rocket science; it simply requires education, a good coach to guide you, and the determination to persevere through your journey.

Tracking macronutrients is a way to approach nourishing your body differently—being in tune with what it needs, providing it with protein to rebuild muscles, and ensuring the right balance of carbs and fat for energy and brain health. For many of my client’s it’s been life changing and the missing link to their fitness and nutrition.

What Clients are Saying

“As I entered my early to mid 50s I was finding it harder and harder to lose weight.  I worked out, tried to be mindful of what I was eating and still the scale and measurements wouldn't budge.  I refused to believe that there was no remedy for this.  Emily suggested that I try a cut by tracking my macros.   This was the missing puzzle piece for losing fat and building muscle.  The scale responded, my clothes fit better, I felt amazing and I realized how to make better food choices.  Through her coaching, encouragement and weight training, I am a huge proponent of this program.”

What Clients are Saying

"After working out with Emily since the summer, I decided it was time to add nutrition into the mix.  We all know generally that you need to eat in a calorie deficit to lose body fat, but the macro program provided a way to do so without feeling deprived.  In fact, it encourages you to eat, and make sure you're getting enough of the nutrients your body needs.  The focus became on getting ENOUGH, rather than depriving yourself.  You learn to focus on protein, and while nothing is off limits, you naturally start gravitating toward foods that fuel your body.  The weekly group meetings helped keep me motivated and the progress check at the halfway point showed me it was working, without having to get on the scale every day.  I was impressed with the end results, and am excited to continue on the journey toward body recomposition.  Emily is pragmatic, supportive, and realistic, exactly what you need in a coach."
